Sheasham FC president speak on club’s future

Sheasham FC president Clever Mandaza has said while the team in the interim is contending for the ultimate promotion to the premier league at the end of the season-he however, indicated that the club is looking into the future.

The football club which is now nearing a decade since its formation in 2015 is a great example of a successfully run football club.

Mr Mandaza said the club was formed with the future in mind as, “it is a long-term project which speaks to the future.”

He explained that the vision is already bearing fruits, as the football club has been positively embraced by the Gweru community and beyond.

He paid tribute to the club supporters and partners who have managed to be part of the club over the years.

“The idea is that we want to create a broader network where sport goes beyond competition. Sheasham FC is a competitive side, and with the remaining games before the end of the season we are still very much in the race. However, over and above that, we want to have a club which goes beyond competition only. We want to create a football club which will connect not only, our Gweru community but also Midlands as a whole, the country as a whole, the region as a whole and internationally. We want to have a football club which will provide a greater socialization platform for our communities,” he said.

He said the club is putting in place a solid plan to achieve its goals.

“For us to compete at the levels which I have mentioned we are putting in place a solid plan which will enable us to achieve our goals. We are working on having a team which once promoted will be able to stay in the premier league, a team which will be able to compete in regional, continental and international tournaments,” he said.

The president explained that the team’s debut flirtation with the premier league was an eye opener.

“We learnt our lessons when we were promoted to the elite league, and what we are currently doing is to correct those mistakes,” he said.

Mr Mandaza highlighted that the club managed to self-introspect.

“We managed to self-introspect and we are now laying a proper foundation of the team and that is the introduction of our developmental side. Our juniors are the future of this team. Through our junior policy we are grooming players who will be able to fit into the Sheasham FC’s philosophy, because who would have groomed them into the Sheasham FC culture. Therefore, you will appreciate that our junior program is responsible for nurturing and developing talent,” he said.

Above all, as part of our plan we want to develop home grown talent.

“We want to promote local talent and talent is abound here in Gweru. The promotion of home grown talent will ensure that we have a football club which will be a football powerhouse,” he said.
